Life

Life on the Ohio University Athens campus offers top-rate resources that can help you excel in your studies. You'll have easy access to your classes and Alden Library, as well as the university's many computer labs and resource centers.

You will live in Washington Hall, one of many residence halls occupied in the summer on East Green. We're also offering you a discount! Read on for more details. Or if your permanent address is in the local, Athens area, you may choose to commute to campus for your classes and activities.

Residence Life @ Ohio University
Most of you will live with one roommate in a double room and men and women will be segregated by sections. All rooms are furnished with beds, desks and chairs, lounge chairs, dressers and closet space. Mattresses are 80 inches long, a snug fit for standard size twin sheets. A combination compact refridgerator/freezer and microwave is provided in each room. All rooms are air conditioned.

Internet access is provided to each room through an Ethernet connection, which is much faster than modems and does not tie up the phone line. All students receive unlimited free Internet access and an university email account.

A campus telephone may be requested free of charge. Long-distance service is available with a Bobcat Calling card account, which you can activate when you arrive on campus. You may also make collect calls or use your calling card from home.

You will receive second session housing for free! To receive the discount, you must register for 3 credit hours or more, live in a double or triple room during first session, and select either the 14 or 20 meal plan option during both sessions. Early Start Freshmen are strongly encouraged to live with a roommate although single rooms may be available. These prices listed are for the room charge only. Meal plan pricing and options are listed on the Residence & Dining Services Contract.

Meal Options
Ohio University Dining Services provides four different meal plan options to fit students' budgets and eating habits. Students on any of the meal plans may choose to eat in any of the dining halls operating during the summer (Boyd and Nelson Dining Halls) regardless of where you live. The dining halls serve 20 meals each week. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served each day Monday-Saturday. On Sundays, the dining halls offer brunch and dinner.

Dining halls offer a variety of menus. On a routine basis, the following are available:

  • vegetarian items
  • fresh fruits and vegetables
  • rice is served at most meals
  • a variety of ethnic dishes
  • pasta bars are available
  • Asian food
  • Grab 'n' Go meals are available for lunch and dinner
  • meal equivalency for lunch and dinner during meal plan hours are available in the Nelson mini-mall at Smart Mouth Pizza and Sunset Strips
  • all dining halls exclusively use 100% vegetable oils

Meal plan options are described in detail at www.ohio.edu/food/meals.htm#plans.
