FAQs

Q: Am I better off taking classes first summer session, second summer session, or both sessions?
A: The Early Start Freshman Summer Experience Program is designed to give you a head start on your college career. By attending you'll feel more relaxed, prepared, and educated for fall quarter when life on campus is faster-paced, more crowded, and busy. There are more class options to choose from during first summer session, more students on campus, and more activities to participate in, but by attending either session or both sessions you can achieve the same goals.

Q: Will I be able to live in the same room for fall quarter that I will be in for summer quarter?
A:
Most likely, no. In the summer, only a few residence halls are used. In the fall, students live in one of 41 buildings.

Q: Is there a limit on the number of classes I can take?
A: Yes, students are limited to registering for a maximum of 20 hours of credit during any quarter. However, the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience is designed to give participants the best start possible to their college careers. For that to happen, we encourage a lighter load of classes. For instance you may want to take ENG 151 (4) Writing and Rhetoric I, PED 137 (1) Tennis, and UC 115 (2) University Experiences for a total of 7 hours.

Q: Will I be able to leave my things at Ohio University when my summer classes are finished so that I don't have to move them back home and then move them back to Athens in September?
A:
Unfortunately, you will be asked to take all your belongings home at the end of summer term. Our Residence Life staff does a thorough cleaning of all residence halls at the end of the summer and this can only be done if rooms are empty. Besides, you will likely have a different room assignment for fall quarter.

Q: When do I register for summer classes?
A: You will register for classes during the orientation session prior to the start Summer Sessions. In this orientation session you will learn about the registration process, take placement tests, receive advising on what to take, and much more.

Q: Do I have to attend an orientation session?
A: Yes! This orientation session is very important and replaces the need to attend the Precollege orientation in August.
All new students are required to attend orientation.

Q: Are there any scholarships available for participants in the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience?
A: Unfortunately, no. You may be eligible to receive financial aid in the form of grants or loans by processing a 2008-2009 FAFSA with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, but there are no scholarships specifically offered for this program.

Q: When will I register for fall classes?
A: First! Attend the Early Start Freshman Summer Experience Program and jump ahead of the rest of the 2008 class of freshmen. This means you will register for fall classes before the majority of incoming freshmen; guaranteeing you first choice on classes that fill quickly.
