Please note that not all software is installed on every computer in the lab.
"Why is the AAC lab a mix of Macs and Windows?"
The reason for this is a belief in the strength of diversity. I have seen things work on a Mac that won't work on a Windows computer and vice-versa. Some tasks are easier to do in Microsoft Windows while other tasks are easier to do on an Apple Macintosh computer. If something affects one system, it may not be a problem for the other operating system.
The lab does have a larger number of Macs because of the constant threat of security holes and viruses with Microsoft Windows to which Macintosh computers are immune.
Despite some people's claims, there is no superior operating system, in fact, none of them are exactly "user-friendly" which is why our lab is here with its available help. :-)
Some things Macs are better at, and some things Windows computers are better at. The key is knowing which tool to use for which job which is one of the things our skilled and patient lab assistants can assist you with.
